We are looking for a highly enthusiastic Child Care Teacher that could join our team as a substitute teacher in our Licensed Child Care Center. This candidate would assist with shift coverage throughout the month as needed. Hours may vary.


Position Summary:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Aquatics Director at Lafayette Family YMCA intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined while also managing high-quality, member-focused aquatics programs.


Responsibilities:

- Oversees the scheduling and management of lifeguards and swim instructors, ensuring proper coverage for all pool operations, swim lessons, and aquatic programs.

- Actively works hands-on in aquatic programs and swim lessons to support program growth and help meet monthly revenue goals.

- Develops, implements, and manages aquatic programs that align with community needs, including swim lessons, water fitness classes, and specialty aquatic offerings.

- Plans and leads monthly in-service training sessions for lifeguards, focusing on skill development, safety procedures, and maintaining certification requirements.

- Ensures lifeguard staff adhere to all safety protocols and expectations, maintaining a high standard of vigilance and professionalism.

- Assists in hiring, training, and evaluating lifeguards and swim instructors, fostering a strong, knowledgeable, and engaged team.

- Oversees pool maintenance and safety compliance, working with facility staff to ensure water quality, cleanliness, and adherence to state/local health regulations.

- Collaborates with YMCA leadership and community partners to enhance aquatic offerings and expand program outreach.

- Maintains accurate records of certifications, trainings, and compliance standards for all aquatic staff.


Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.

- Current lifeguard certification (YMCA, Red Cross, or equivalent) with strong knowledge of aquatic safety and emergency response procedures.

- One to two years related experience preferred (e.g., as an aquatics coordinator or supervisor).

- At least 1 year of experience teaching swim lessons or leading aquatic programs.

- Experience in program development and implementation to increase attendance and revenue.

- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

- Passion for water safety and the ability to create a positive and inclusive aquatic environment.

- Within 30 days of hire, completion of Child Abuse Prevention, Working with Program Volunteers, CPR, First Aid, AED, and Bloodborne Pathogens training.

- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

- Minimum age of 21.

- Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Follows all procedures and standards.

-Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.

- Cultivate positive relationships with children and parents.

- Maintain program site and equipment.

- Maintains required program records.

- Attend and participate in family nights, program activities, and staff meetings

- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Knows and follows all state guidelines and Paths to Quality.

- Maintains classroom, equipment, and cleaning supplies
